303-Style Acid Bass

The recognisable 303 family of sounds is not just “saw wave plus resonance”. The interaction between a simple oscillator, resonant filter, short envelope, sequenced accents and legato-style slides is what makes the line behave as a musical instrument.

Build it

Create a short SEQ pattern, drive a suitable mono oscillator/filter/VCA path, then add ACCENT and SLIDE behaviour. Keep the pattern simple while tuning the filter envelope and resonance.

What to listen for

Accent should change the character of selected steps rather than merely act as a volume switch. Slide should connect chosen notes so the pitch transition becomes part of the phrase.

Experiment

Change only the pattern accents while leaving the notes alone. Then do the opposite. You will hear how much of the identity comes from articulation rather than pitch.
