Rhythmic Modulation

Rhythm does not have to come from note events. A held note can become rhythmic when filter frequency, level, pan or another parameter is modulated in sync with the musical clock.

Build it

Hold or sequence a simple tone. Add a synchronized LFO or clock-triggered envelope to a clearly audible target such as VCF frequency. Then compare smooth modulation with stepped or gated movement.

Variation

Use different divisions for two destinations. A 3-against-4 or other polymetric relationship can create a long repeating movement from very little patching.
